New Behind the Scenes Gallery

We have just launched a companion to the website – a ContentDM digital image gallery, which will allow access to all images from select titles that appear on UBC Library Vault. These include digitized engravings, illustrations, copper plates, hand-painted manuscripts and more. Offerings will include ntouched, raw photographs from original works as well as the final images showcased on UBC Library Vault. Highlights will include engravings from Vesalius's famous On the Fabric of the Human Body, illustrations from botany texts and more. UBC at the Olympics

Did you know that UBC made Olympic headlines as early as 1962-1963? This was the time when the first Canadian National Hockey Team trained for the 1964 Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria, under coach Father David Bauer at the newly constructed Thunderbird Winter Sports Centre in Point Grey. Father Bauer's successor at the helm of the team, Dr. Bob Hindmarch, went on to actively support Whistler's Olympic bid in 1976, along with UBC's skiing coach, Al Fisher.

Life Sciences Libraries @ UBC

UBC Library is offering print-on-demand options for e-books to which it subscribes online with Springer. For those unable to access e-books through the UBC Library catalogue, the library is taking orders to have these publications delivered in print copy to patrons. Orders extend to collections in medicine, environmental and life sciences, and cost $24.95 USD plus GST and PST, including shipping and handling.
Harry Potter Exhibition

American Library Association, in conjunction with the National Library of Medicine, brings you an intriguing and popular new traveling exhibit: "Harry Potter's World: Renaissance Science, Magic and Medicine". From September 2009 to November 2010, 12 small libraries in the USA will feature by rotation for a period of 4 weeks panel displays of 15th - 16th century works of alchemy, natural sciences and occultism currently found in the History of Medicine Collection at the National Library of Medicine. It's pure magic!
